When Suzuki launched the Kizashi in 2010, I saw it as the Japanese Jetta: Same tweener size, same driver-oriented focus, but with a bit less soul. For 2011, Suzuki has launched a 'Sport' version with a stiffer suspension and racy stying details -- but without the V6 or turbo engine we were expecting. With the launch of the 'decontented' 2011 Volkswagen Jetta -- which, in my opinion, isn't nearly as good as the old Jetta -- there's an enormous opportunity for the Kizashi Sport. School is about to begin, and I have once again updated my list of the Top Ten Cars for Teens.
We've debated in the past whether it's a good idea to buy your teen driver a brand-new car. Some say it's better to buy a used car for young drivers, while others say parents shouldn't buy their teens a car at all -- the kids should pay for their own wheels. Still, buying a new car is the best way to ensure that a young driver has the latest safety hardware, an important consideration considering that car crashes are the number one killer of teens in America.
